Weekly Report Format for Prof. Lyuu's Students

Weekly Reports for Prof. Lyuu's Students

It is a good idea that I receive weekly reports written in English from you.
  1. It keeps you on track towards your advanced degree by making you read and think more.
  2. It allows me to measure your progress in a qualitative way.
  3. I will make comments on your repots (grammar, logic, contents, etc.). By the time you start to write your great papers/theses (and many of your works will be great) your command of English will be such that writing in it no longer terrifies you. I also got to enjoy benefit of amortizing the time of revising your later works (hopefully).
A weekly report is expected from
  1. All Ph.D. students.
  2. 2nd-year-to-be-and-up Master's students.
  3. Other current students of mine who care to write me a report.
A weekly report can be one of the following:
  1. Your thesis draft.
  2. A summary of the academic paper(s) you are reading. Now, if you read only 1-2 pages, summarize those 1-2 pages.
  3. A summary of anything that you read (CNN reports, Time magazine articles, a novel, anything).
  4. Opinion on anything (current events, arts, movies, music, politics, etc.).
  5. If you are traveling, consider filing a travel report.
Please note:
  1. Your report should be one paragraph long and not exceed 1 page (unless it is your thesis draft).
  2. At the bottom of the report, list the academic papers you plan to read (unless you are a Ph.D. student who is already writing a thesis). That will give me a good idea where your research is heading.
  3. Sequence the file name of your report by your_student_ID-report_no. For example, if your student ID is r92922099 and this is your 5th report, make it r92922099_005.doc. Download your template from
    http://www.csie.ntu.edu.tw/~lyuu/r99922099_001.doc
  4. Use Microsoft Word unless you are sending me a paper draft, in which case it can be either in PDF or LaTeX format.
  5. Email your report with your NTU (preferred) or NTUCSIE email account which uses the student ID as the user name. That will save me time identifying you and replying to you.
