Minicom for cygwin / build guide

  1. Download the source code of minicom and untar it to a place you like
  2. make sure you install following package in cygwin
    • automake
    • autoconf
    • gcc
    • make
    • libncurses-devel
    • libiconv
  3. cd into minicom directory and run
    $ ./configure
  4. edit src/Makefile, find the line “LIBS = XXXXX” & add “-liconv” to the LIBS
    ex.
    LIBS = -liconv -lncurses
  5. run
    $ make 
    $ make install
  6. If everything work well, you will complete the build/install.
  7. type
    $ LANG=C;minicom -s

    to setup following argument

    1. Serial port setup ⇒ Hardware Flow Control ⇒ NO
    2. Serial port setup ⇒ Serial Device ⇒ /dev/ttyS“X-1” ( “X”=COM“X” in windows device manager. ex.“/dev/ttyS8” if you get “COM9” in windows device manager)

          ▒ F - Hardware Flow Control : No                     ▒
          ▒ G - Software Flow Control : No                     ▒
          ▒                                                    ▒
          ▒    Change which setting?                           ▒
          ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒
          
  8. Save setup as dfl (default) and exit
  9. OK, build, install, setup is all done. just run minicom next time
    $ env LANG=C minicom

    $ env LANG=C minicom -D /dev/ttySX -o
