IoT technologies have the potential of revolutionizing medicine by enabling precision diagnostics and treatment. Medical misdiagnoses are frequently caused by over-reliance on patients' biased recall and by measurement limited to the clinical settings. Doctors also have little control over follow-up treatment prescribed for outside the clinic. These limitations can be overcome by a combination of wearable medical and non-medical IoT devices that produce objective, unbiased data from or around the patient. This talk presents a number of case studies on the design of such IoT devices to enable precision medicine, including cardiovascular and pulmonary applications.
Pai H. Chou is a professor in Computer Science at National Tsing Hua University. He received his bachelor's in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley, and his MS and PhD from University of Washington. He was a professor in EECS at University of California, Irvine (1999-2017). His areas of interest include embedded systems, low-power design, wearable devices, energy harvesting, and design tools. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award 2005. He served as Technical Program Co-Chair for the International Conference on Hardware/Software Codesign (CODES+ISSS) 2003 and for the International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED) 2012.
