Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive computing are projected to empower patients and transform the practice of medicine. While there is a growing number of cancer cases every year, integration of AI technology in cancer care could improve the cancer diagnosis, aid clinical decision-making, and lead to better health outcomes. In this talk, Dr. Lu will introduce how to develop and deploy deep learning-based systems for precision cancer treatment. He will further demonstrate how AI transforms the clinical workflow of radiation therapy with real clinical case studies from Vysioneer’s collaboration with leading hospitals in both Taiwan and the US.
Dr. Jen-Tang Lu (呂任棠) is a scientist and entrepreneur, who has a strong passion for technological revolution in medical imaging. He is currently the founder and CEO of Vysioneer, an MIT-funded AI in cancer care startup. Vysioneer has been developing deep learning-based products for precision cancer treatment, using the state-of-the-art proprietary algorithm and collaborating with leading cancer centers worldwide. The company has received the first-ever US FDA clearance on an AI-powered tumor auto-contouring solution for radiotherapy. Prior to Vysioneer, Dr. Lu was a machine learning scientist in the Center for Clinical Data Science at the Mass General Hospital (MGH). His achievements of automated diagnosis on spine MRI and automated aortic aneurysm detection on CT have been used to facilitate clinical workflow at MGH. Dr. Lu received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. While there, he commercialized his doctoral research on image enhancement for medical ultrasound. The technology was awarded the Top Prize at the Princeton Innovation Forum in 2016.
