Abstract:

Internet of Things (IoT) and smartphones have become an essential part of our daily lives: we use them to connect, to access, to monitor, and to remind us of many things, big or small. The next innovation we believe will happen is to have smartphones become our partners or trainers, help us change or improve our behavior. We are working on the AutoCoach project: a driving behavior management application running on Android devices and connected with sensors. AutoCoach is designed to keep a driver aware of his personal driving habits. AutoCoach identifies patterns in a driver’s behavior in real time and compares it with his driving history and that of others with similar patterns. Based on that, AutoCoach offers recommendations to the driver to keep him aware of the potential problems in his driving and also interact with him to improve his behavior gradually to make him a better driver. AutoCoach has adopted and is developing many AI technologies that will collect driving data, analyze common driving behaviors, match a user with different styles (or personalities), and provide intelligent personalized feedback in real time to “persuade” the driver to improve his behavior. In this talk, I will present the system architecture, UI design and some early experience.
