XYZ Robotics is committed to transforming industrial automation using AI robotics and mechanical intelligence. One problem XYZ focuses on is piece picking -- moving items one by one from one container to another. It is a labor-intensive and dull process that happens often in a supply chain. Although the task is easy for human beings, traditional industrial robotics cannot handle the diversity of items (e.g. size, weight, texture) and their random arrangement. XYZ provides turnkey solutions that can handle the diversity with high speed and reliability. The solutions are powered by XYZ’s vision system, which does not require prior training of various target items. Moreover, XYZ’s custom end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) design further raises the speed, robustness, and range of items that can be handled. Video: https://youtu.be/ln1oNgtTBvs

Peter received the degrees of B.S. in Computer Science from National Chiao-Tung University, in 2010, Taiwan, M.S. in Computer Science from National Taiwan University, in 2012, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, in 2018. In his Ph.D. period, he studied physical contact (e.g. pushing objects) to help robots understand the physical world. His works on state estimation are published in IROS and ICRA: Shape and Pose recovery from Planar Pushing, More than a Million Ways to Be Pushed (Best Paper Finalist, IROS 2016), and State Estimation for Planar Pushing and Insertion. Designing robots to improve people's lives has always been his career goal. He worked on perception problems in DARPA Robotics Challenge (2013-2015) and served as system lead in Amazon Robotics Challenge (Second Place 2015, Third Place in 2016, First Place in Stowing in 2017). He co-founded XYZ Robotics in 2018 and serves as the CTO.
