An introduction about how data scientists explore and define short-term metrics for A/B tests in industry. Running A/B tests is a standard procedure across different companies when engineers develop new product features. But what metrics we should examine is the key question when we run tests. This talk will go over high level business use cases and the academic research procedure to define metrics for A/B tests.
Shangpo Chou is a Data Scientist at Yahoo Research with several patents and publications. He has 5+ yrs data science related industry experience including metrics design, evaluation, ETL pipeline, user behavior analysis, personalization and ranking modeling. He graduated from IEOR (Industrial Engineering and Operational Research) department at UC Berkeley with a Master of Engineering Degree. He received B.S and M.S from NTU CSIE Department under the supervision of professor Cheng-Fu Chou. He was also working with Professor Stacey Chen in the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica as a research assistant.
