Supercomputer is now used in various purposes, from daily weather forecast to cutting-edge scientific research.  The University of Tokyo operates several supercomputers, including Oakforest-PACS, which is second fastest supercomputer in Japan.  This talk reviews a brief history of struggles against various hindrances of higher performance, introduces some of the newest development of high performance algorithms, and thinks about future of supercomputing.



In 1993, Suda graduated master’s course of Department of Information Science (currently Computer Science) of the University of Tokyo.  In the same year, he became Research Associate of the University of Tokyo.  He received Ph.D in Science from the University of Tokyo in 1996.  After working at Nagoya University, he is working at the University of Tokyo from 2002.  Currently he is Department Chair of Computer Science Director of International Center for Information Science and Technology, and Director of Strategic Public Relations Division.
