Filtering (2007/4~)
The Netflix Prize is a contest for
improving the accuracy of prediction about the movie preferences of customers.
More precisely, it wishes to predict the voting scores of movies given by
customers. I joined the quest since April 2007. The main approach I use for
this contest is Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), which aims to find the
hidden features of movies and the preferences of customers for these features.
In future work, I hope to combine SVD with other approaches, like the
classification and distribution estimation techniques.
Image Thumbnailing
(2007/5~)
with Yi-Hsuan Yang
For browsing large amount of images or
photos, image thumbnailing is an important technique about cropping the
significant portions of images, in order to make thumbnails that give a good
impression on image viewers. Automatic thumbnail cropping can be done via face
detection and saliency analysis, and we propose an approach which uses the
information from both of the two techniques. To support our approach, we also propose
a hierarchical multi-view face detection algorithm to detecting various views
of faces in images.
