 Short Biography

Associate Professor Phoebe Chen received her BInfTech degree with First Class Honours and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Queensland , Brisbane Australia . Professor Chen joined the Deakin University in 2003. She is the Director of Research of School of Information Technology, and a Chief Investigator of ARC Centre in Bioinformatics and also head of Multimedia Stream. From 1999 to 2003, she worked as an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Queensland University of Technology. She is a steering committee chair of Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Conference (founder) and Multimedia Modelling. Her research interests include bioinformatics, multimedia databases and technology, visual query, web information systems, machine learning and data mining. She is APBC2003, APBC2004 PC chair, APBC2005 PC Co-Chair, BIBE2004 PC Co-Chair and APBC2006 General Co-Chair. She is PC members for many bioinformatics conferences and workshops such as ISMB2004, GIW2003, GIW2004, CSB2003 and CSB2004. She serves the editorial board for Current Bioinformatics, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology as an associate editor. Phoebe has been awarded 18 research grants around AU$5millions (include 9 prestigious Australia Research Councill (ARC) Grants) for last three years.

Phoebe have published more than 80 refereed publications including 2005 book on "Bioinformatics Technologies". She also selected as advisory board of Australia Bioinformatics.
