Message from Colonel Aubrey "SwiftHeart" Chen, aboard the TCS-40 Victory: I usually don't like to make an issue of timeline consistency, but the 4th WC novel made so many blatant mistakes that I feel it is only right somebody step up to the podium and point out these errors -- in hopes that similar mistakes won't be repeated in the future. (But of course, we know they will be repeated in the future. ;) |

p.11 He was the one to bestow the nickname "Hobbes" on the renegade Kilrathi...
Anyone who knows anything about WC knows it was Downtown who bestowed this nickname on Ralgha, after a Terran philosopher, as stated in WC2.p.118 ...the Empire was upping the ante by introducing the prospect of mass slaughter...
Where have you been, Blair? The Kilrathi destroyed more than 13 human worlds with thermonuclear weapons in Fleet Action! Not to mention the use of that Sivar-class planet-buster dreadnought in WC SM1! (many thanks to Joseph Riggs for putting me to shame! ;)p.135 Never let the people see you run, laddie.
Fine piece of advice, Paladin. Only when you are on scramble alert, sitting (or walking) idle will get you killed real quick.p.142 "It is not yet time for Ralgha to realize his destiny..."
If this is already revealed to the reader, what is the point of hiding the identity of the traitor in subsequent chapters?p.149 Where had they come from?
Blair must be getting old. The same ships that destroyed the Tiger's Claw, of course.p.163 ...but it must have been dreadful for her to see those last few fighters escape to launch their deadly missiles at the colony...
Er... wasn't it mentioned earlier that the missiles can only be launched from cap ships? Inconsistency within the same chapter... wow.p.169A Vaktoth can outspeed a Thunderbolt? I don't think so, not according to the specs.p.205Blair and Hobbes are certainly taking their time on the flight deck. Aren't they suppose to be rescuing Flash and Vaquero?p.233 "Is it certain that the one called Blair is still assigned to the carrier?"
Thrakhath keeps talking as if he hadn't met Blair before. Please review WC2 SO2. The game makes the same mistake when Blair is captured on the losing track, but not as obvious as the novel makes it.p.241 ...including a small contingent of the carrier's crew still on liberty...
The Victory just barely escaped Ariel with their lives, yet some crew still deem it fit to take on the Captain's liberty offer? Don't they think it just might be possible for the Kilrathi to pursue them through the jump point and attack them in Delius?p.284 Normally, no one stood a watch in the Communcations Center except when the ship was in General Quarters...
Sorry, that just sound like a stupid excuse for leaving the comm center empty so the traitor can do his work.p.298 The others--a cruiser and three destroyers.
The cruiser is Coventry, and Ajax and Sheffield are the two destroyers. Where is this third destroyer?p.300 "Coventry's hit a mine... she is falling behind, with heavy damage to her shield generators..."
A single mine damaging a cruiser thus? Didn't Coventry's scanner pick up the mine field before entering the area?p.302 Any enemy pilot who wanted to fight, even the Heart of the Tiger or the Kilrathi renegade, was fair prey to the hunters today.
Er... was Blair ever considered off-limit?p.343 "Does that mean your romance with your little grease monkey has fallen through?"
Not Flint too! She sound just like Maniac!p.352~353Cloaking device is supposed to cloak the ship, not stealth it.p.362Vagabond is a wimp! Can't beat two Darkets in an Excalibur. And why doesn't Blair and others de-cloak and offer him support before he bought the farm?
An Excalibur should be able to outrun a Vaktoth, especially when its afterburners are engaged.p.366 Killed or be killed. Not for revenge. Not for hate. But for simple survival of the human species.
Glad you've finally managed to come around, Colonel Blair.p.370Blair fainted. Some hero....is all.
Why the authors feel appropriate to keep repeating this and other phrases such as "Attack! Attack! Attack!" is beyond me... not to mention the reckless use of "..."Why bother assigning names to faceless characters of minor importance who never make another appearance in the story after their introduction?
The Confederation is losing on all front, and Blair, being a frontline officer, doesn't realize the war is not in favour of humanity? Personally, I think attacking Kilrah and stopping the war is far more important than some stupid ideal of keeping all civilians off limits, especially when your side is staring into the brink of total annilation. Think about the human and Kilrathi population which will be spared if the war stops then, sacrificing only but a single Kilrathi planet. I honestly think it's worth the tradeoff.
The Maniac we all love in the game certainly doesn't come out amiable in this novel. I really feel like kicking both him and Blair in the teeth at times.
Please. I know Paladin's got a Scottish accent, but that's no reason to make it difficult for the readers.
Jumpshock made Blair felt sluggish. Yes, yes, we know that already.
What's with this wolfish grin trend? Everybody seems to be doing it.
