Who should be Tenchi's Bride?

by replicant

Everyone one on [the Tenchi Muyo! Mailing List] wants more Tenchi Muyo! products. Especially, a 3rd OAV series or a new TV series, but everyone is whining about the ways these things are coming about. If we are going to get a new series or a continuation of an older Tenchi Muyo! series, then more people are going to have to show interest in our beloved Tenchi.

If memory serves me right (hehe) I remember hearing how poorly TMiL2 did in Japan and how interest in Tenchi Muyo! had dropped off quite a bit in the land of the rising sun. To see if Tenchi has a future it appears as if the powers that be are trying to see if it can make it in america through the widely known Cartoon Network. None of us Tenchi Muyo! fans like the butcher job that CN is doing to the greatest anime series to date, but it is a necessary evil folks. CN is a very large medium for cartoon viewers all over the US and helps to judge a series quite well on whether it is getting a favorable viewing percentage or not. Granted most of these viewers are usually more interested in Scooby Doo re-runs, but an increasing number is growing because of the Toonami slot. If Tenchi Muyo! gains the popular vote to these american viewers like Gundam W and Dragonball have, then it will be good for us. If people want to see more of Tenchi Muyo! then we have a better chance of a new series actually coming into fruition, but if they do not respond well to it then it means the "same old, same old" for us and probably the death of an anime institution. You don't have to like the CN versions of Tenchi or the fact that every new TM product is coming out with the label "As Seen on Cartoon Network!" or "Featuring All Your Favorite Characters From The Cartoon Network Series!", but the fact remains that this garbage we are putting up with now will probably help us out in the long run. I see absolutely nothing wrong with letting CN do what they want to the series as long as it means a continuation of Tenchi Muyo! in the reasonable future. I think of reasonable as within the next 2 years. In conclusion, [stop] whining about something you have absolutely no control over and hope that this mutilation of one of our treasures is a necessary evil for us to gain a new series or a 3rd OAV.
