Your everyday high school 17 year old. He lives with his father,
Nobuyuki, and visits the Masaki Shrine during summer. At the
Masaki Shrine, he helps curate the Shrine with his grandfather, Yosho,
and sword trains under his grandfather's supervision. His mother,
Achika, passed away when he was six, leaving Nobuyuki to take
care of little Tenchi. Fortunately, Tenchi can very well take
care of himself and is quite independent in normal settings.
Every summer, Tenchi prefers to spend his time doing other things
than shrine cleaning and sword training, like trying to steal
Yosho's keys to unlock the cave. To Tenchi, the cave is full of
mysteries and legends because Yosho refuses to allow anyone or
anything inside, including Tenchi himself. Of course, being curious
as ever, Tenchi tries meticulously to steal his grandfather's
keys to unlock to cave's gate.
On a particular day, Tenchi was blessed with fortune because he
finally stole the keys to unlock the gate (some would say Yosho "gave" it to him).
Little did he know and to his misfortune (or is it?), he accidentally unsealed the
demon that was trapped inside for 700 years. With the unsealing
of the demon, his life started to tangent off from being serene
and boring to the adventurous.
After unsealing Ryoko, the space pirate, from the cave, Tenchi
found himself in more than normal settings he is used to. Shortly
after unsealing Ryoko, Tenchi suddenly acquired some out-of-this-world
guests, literally. Ryoko was the catalyst that marked an event
which set off a chain reaction leading to the arrival of Aeka,
Sasami, Ryo-Ohki, Mihoshi and Wasyu. With the arrival
of these beautiful females, Tenchi found himself in the middle
of the most unusual circumstances: Fending off personal affections
from Ryoko and Aeka, becoming Wasyu's "guinea pig", entering
and exiting dimensions, fighting universe powerful villains like Kagato,
realizing he is not "human", his grandfather is over 700 years
old and the owner of the powerful sword Tenchiken (energy sword),
he is a descendent from Juraian Royal Family, and more.
As a descendent from Juraian Royal Family, Tenchi can also wield
the Tenchiken, which is "programmed" to only allow Juraians with
royal blood to unleash its power, so calling him Lord Tenchi is
appropriate. However, Tenchi is not experienced enough to use
the Tenchiken. Most of the time, the Tenchiken "shuts off" when
Tenchi is in dire need of it. Sort of a bummer. Note to Star Wars
fan, a Tenchiken is *not* a lightsaber.
Tenchi's most important realization is that he can generate the
Light Hawk Wings, the most powerful weapon in the universe and
thought to only be available on Juraian space ships. This is a
shocker because the Light Hawk Wings were thought to only generate
with the help of Juraian Royal Trees. Imagine a 17 year old boy
who can generate the Light Hawk Wings without an external power
source? During his battle with Kagato, he generated the Light
Hawk Wings and sliced Kagato in half. Not only that, he cut Kagato's
ship (the Soja) in half with the same stroke he cut Kagato. Can
you say kick butt? ^_^
However, Tenchi's more humanly trait is what the females love
him for. He is caring, nice, considerate, and forgiving. Each
female, one way or another, craves and fights for Tenchi's attention
and affection, especially Ryoko and Aeka. Yes, even the 8 year
old, but mature, Sasami loves Tenchi. When Tenchi first encountered
these females, he was more than willing to accept them in to his
family. One by one, each female voluntarily and affectionately
became part of Tenchi's family. Of course, with all these females
under one roof, troubles are bound to happen. The Tenchi home
has literally been torn apart, put together, and torn apart again.
How Tenchi tolerates this kind of behavior is beyond anyone's
guess. Maybe it is due to the fact that Tenchi is lonely and also
crave affection himself, especially after his mother passed away
when he was six, or Tenchi is just too nice and considerate to
come forward and demand some discipline. Sometimes, he does receive
astronomical headaches.
