The space pirate that started Tenchi on his adventure. She was
sealed in the cave close to the Masaki Shrine before being released
by Tenchi. She appears in all of the Tenchi Muyo! series.
Ryoko was sealed in the cave by Yosho for 700 years before being
released by Tenchi. Before she was sealed, she destroyed countless
planets and colonies. She tried to destroy the planet Jurai (she
was under the control of Kagato), but was pursued by Yosho. They
battled each other until they finally reached Earth. On Earth,
Yosho finally defeated Ryoko by taking away her Power Gems,
the source of all her power located on both of her wrists and
the last one on the left ear decorated as an ear ring.
She was trapped 700 years, but she is approximately 2000 years
old, the same age as her space ship, Ryo-Ohki. She is the daughter
of Wasyu. Wasyu created her using a life form called Mass
the same material used to create Ryo-Ohki. However, Wasyu considers
Ryoko her daughter because she used her ova as part of the materials
to create Ryoko.
Ryoko was a space pirate most of her existence due to the control
of Kagato, the evil, power-hungry, villain who used Ryoko to search
and destroy planets and colonies to find powerful weapons to enhance
his space ship, the Soja. Therefore, Ryoko was a space pirate
all her life.
When Tenchi freed her from her prison, she thanked him in her
special and space piratey way. ^_^ She followed Tenchi to school
and confronted Tenchi. Ryoko was upset and wanted to expend her
frustrations on Tenchi, but Tenchi blamed her imprisonment on
Yosho, his grandfather. Although Yosho was his grandfather, he
did not know he was actually the one who imprisoned Ryoko 700
years ago. Ryoko turned the school in to ashes, of course. Eventually,
Tenchi accidentally defeated Ryoko with the help of his Tenchiken.
Actually, it was the Tenchiken who defeated Ryoko because the
Tenchiken has a mind of its own.
After Ryoko was defeated, she was a good sport. She disappeared
and Tenchi thought he was rid of her for good. When he came home,
Tenchi finds Ryoko sleeping in his bed. Why? Because Ryoko loves
Tenchi since he was a child, and she wants to be with him. Eventhough
she was sealed in the cave, her astral body was able to roam about.
When Tenchi was a baby, he could see Ryoko's astral body eventhough
no one else can, which surprised Ryoko. When Tenchi grew older,
he could no longer see her astral body, but always had a feeling
of something alive was inside the cave. As Tenchi grew older,
so did Ryoko's affection for Tenchi. As time passes, she grew
very fond of Tenchi and eventually fell in love with him. Her
astral body was with Tenchi through all his childly ordeals; she
tried to comfort him as he cried in front of the cave after his
grandmother's passing; she watched him play; she watched him grew
in to a young man. She would wait for Tenchi to visit the cave
so she can get a glimpse of his presence. In time, she misses
Tenchi when he leaves the cave or does not come at all. She was
lonely, and indeed she was, but she would have grew fond of Tenchi
if she was or was not lonely.
However, she is still a space pirate, so her personal relations
with others is a little on the rough side, especially with Aeka.
Aeka is also fond of Tenchi, but Ryoko does not like Aeka because
of this. Ryoko and Aeka would fight over Tenchi countless times,
which usually results explosions in the Masaki house, but their
squabbles are comical and childish. Personally, Ryoko does care
about Aeka's well being. In battle, she is always in the front
line protecting the Masaki family.
Unlike Aeka, she is extremely informal, loud, harsh, and has
no reservation in showing how she feels about Tenchi. This is
one of the reasons why she and Aeka clash. She is also mischievous.
Among all the females in the Masaki family, she is the most powerful,
even without her third Power Gem. She has the power to teleport
to another location, phase through objects, unleash destructive
projectiles, has an energy sword, manipulate matter, summon demons,
telekinesis, and more. If she has her third Power Gem, her powers
will be almost limitless.
