Short Bio
I am now an Assistant Professor at Communication
& Multimedia Lab (CMLab), CSIE & GINM, National Taiwan University since February 2007 and the founder of MiRA (Multimedia indexing, Retrieval, and Analysis) Research Group. I had my PhD study in Columbia University under the supervision of Prof.
Shih-Fu Chang (2002-2006). Before that,
I had worked for years in a prominent multimedia software start-up, CyberLink
Corp. , where experiencing Engineer, Project Leader, and R&D Manager. I am also a CMLab alumnus cooperating with Prof. Jau Huang. See more details in my CV.
My research interests (see scope) fall in multimedia content analysis and large-scale multimedia retrieval for enabling "Next-Generation Search" and include :
- Searching one billion photos and videos
- Semantic event and concept detection in photos and videos
- Exploiting social media for knowledge acquisition
- Internet monetization (e.g., advertising)
- Multimedia testbed and evaluation (e.g., LSCOM, TRECVID)
- Investigating machine learning and information retrieval theoretical approaches
- Realizing advanced researches towards business deliverables
Recruiting
- Postdoc and Full-time Research Assistant
(RA) positions are available; for advanced researches and implementation for large-scale multimedia analysis and retrieval. (more details)
- We keep recruiting graduate students (master or PhD) for the exciting projects of both great theoretical interests and strong industrial demands.
- Several image/video/audio retrieval projects are also good for undergraduate students.
Why having research projects in MiRA group? for CSIE undergraduates (
) and PhD students (
).
