Short Bio
I am now an Assistant Professor at Communication & Multimedia Lab (CMLab), CSIE & GINM, National Taiwan University since February 2007 and the founder of MiRA (Multimedia indexing, Retrieval, and Analysis) Research Group. I had my PhD study in Columbia University under the supervision of Prof. Shih-Fu Chang (2002-2006). Before that, I had worked for years in a prominent multimedia software start-up, CyberLink Corp. , where experiencing Engineer, Project Leader, and R&D Manager. I am also a CMLab alumnus cooperating with Prof. Jau Huang. See more details in my CV.
My research interests (see research overview and scope) fall in multimedia content analysis and large-scale multimedia retrieval for enabling "Next-Generation Search" and include :
- Analysis/search/mining of multimedia content including image, video, audio, and text
- Exploitation of large-scale database or unstructured data from diverse and heterogeneous sources
- Investigation of machine learning and information retrieval approaches
- Realizing advanced researches towards business deliverables

- Congratulations to Kuan-Ting Chen and Carson Liao. Their video advertising paper was accepted for ACM SIGIR 2008, the prestigious and top conference in IR community. Chen is also awarded ACM SIGIR travel grant. (04/02/2008)
- Congratulations to Kuan-Ting Chen and Carson Liao. Their novel work, video advertising, had been named the Taiwan TOP 5 in Microsoft Imagine Cup. A final round will be held in May for the Taiwan Champion, who will be eligible to visit France for the World Champion. (03/31/2008)
